Self-defense & Kung Fu at the Viktor Frankl School in Frankfurt
Viktor Frankl School
The cooperation between the Viktor Frankl School and the Phönix Academy
The Viktor Frankl School is a school for the physically disabled. As a physiotherapist, Alexandra Prase Dreßler looked after a pupil on site for many years. In 2000, the school management approached us with a request to set up a self-defense course for boys that would take into account the special needs of the pupils, such as the integration of wheelchair users and pedestrians. At the time, we were able to secure the support of the Frankfurt Sports Office, the Viktor Frankl School’s support association and ourselves, then still the Long Chan Qi Dao Association, now the Phönix Academy.
In addition to the aspect of self-defense, the lessons include the promotion of motor and sensory skills, balance, self-confidence and social skills in equal measure. The annual performance at the school festival and the attempt to integrate individual pupils into the training at our school are also an integral part of the program. Many assistants and co-teachers from the Phönix Academy have since supported the course. The self-defense course currently takes place once a week with Phoenix teacher Susann Heidrich.
